Update: A reader found the solution to this problem, so still feel free to read this post for background info, and then check out the solution here.
You know I’d rather walk on my lips than to criticize anyone (I hope someone gets this reference).
I love the simple aesthetics and logical layout of Facebook’s most recent iPad app update. (Here’s an article from GigaOM that highlights some of its best features.)
The app is great, except for one thing: it’s sort of useless for those of us who manage an organization’s Facebook page.
Those of you who do manage your organization’s Facebook page will be interested in this blog post, those of you who don’t probably won’t.
Within Facebook’s regular and mobile sites, admins of Facebook pages can easily toggle between our personal accounts and the pages we administer, selecting specific features according to our needs as admins. When I updated my Facebook app four days ago when it was released, I was pumped. Oh man, what if I could use my iPad app to upload photos or video I actually took with my iPad, post it as the page I administer, not to mention simply posting text updates?
No such luck. I’m pretty disappointed, in a nerdy, “it’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of life” kind of way. But still.
It’s interesting that on the new left-hand navigation sidebar under “Pages” are listed all the pages that I administer. But then I can’t administer from within the app.
Unless I’m just not looking hard enough. And I don’t really think that’s the case. Yet, based on some online searches, no one seems to care about this. Maybe, just maybe, I’ve entered some sort of Facebook iPad app twilight zone.
So what iPad app for Facebook will allow me to do what I want to do as an admin of a page? Here’s what I found:
- In Matt Hopkins’ February 2011 post The Best iPad Apps for Facebook, none of the ones he mentions – MyPad, Friendly or Friended – let a user toggle between their personal account and admin pages.
- A May 2011 TiPb blog features the same apps as Hopkins’ article, in addition to Facely. Alas, Facely also doesn’t let me toggle.
- Finally, Makeuseof.com, in a July 2011 article, features one more app, FriendCaster, which also doesn’t allow for admin toggling.
What’s a girl gotta do to toggle in this town? Are there any apps for that?
