In October, I blogged that everything was great about the new Facebook iPad app except for one thing: it won’t allow you to toggle between being an admin of a page and your personal page. Well, paqman, a fabulous reader, offered a suggestion in the comments section of that post…and it works!
If you’re an admin of a page, Facebook gives you the option to pretty much keep that admin feature turned on all the time. Meaning that anytime you’re on your organization’s page, and you post, comment, etc., on that page, it’ll post as that page, even if you haven’t clicked “Use Facebook as [so and so page].”
I know about this feature, but I’ve never used it, because when I’m using Facebook as myself, I want to be able to automatically like and share things that are posted on the pages for which I’m an admin.
But, as paqman has so wonderfully discovered, activating this feature is the secret of using Facebook’s iPad app as the admin of a page. You can’t change this setting within the app, so open your Safari iPad browser or get on a computer for these steps:
1. From a web browser, navigate to the Facebook page for which you’re the admin.
2. Click on “Edit Page” in the top right-hand corner.
3. Click on “Your Settings” at the top of the menu on the left-hand side of the page.
4. Check the box next to “Posting Preferences” and click “Save Changes”
Now get back on your Facebook iPad app (go ahead and refresh for good measure) and, as paqman says, “Navigate to your Page from within the Facebook iOS app and post to your heart’s content. All posts you make on your page will now show up as though they were posted from your organization rather than your personal Facebook account. Hope that helps everyone out!”
Indeed it does!
paqman notes: “If using an iPad, the Facebook iOS app will still show the profile pic from your personal account on the text entry box, but once you submit the post it’ll show up as your organization.”
‘Tis true, so don’t be scared when you click “Write Post” and your pretty face still pops up. I tested a post and a photo upload, and it works just fine once you click “Share.”

Thanks this is great – I’ve spent hours trying to do this. I’ve just followed your suggestion and it works. But I couldn’t upload a photo from my iPad and comment on it like I can on my browser. I can upload a photo and then in a separate post I can comment on it. Have you figured out a way to do this?
I’ve just found that when you follow this tip, it also posts this on your home page, but still this is better than not being able to post as your page.
You’re welcome! Not sure of solutions for vadler at the moment. My wife uses the iPad most often and I just get to provide tech support. Might get around to tracking down solutions or alternatives.

Is there a possibility to post a photo with a description? I can post a photo or a status but not both at the same time…
Thanks for this tip. I also have the same question about being able to comment on a photo while posting a picture at the same time. Do you have an answer for that yet? ALSO…and this one is driving me crazy…how can I share a website on my page for which I am the administrator but show it as being shared from that page? This is the same question you answered for photos but this time it is for websites. For example, I want to shre the weather forecast from the Weather Channel on my FB page but I want it shared by that page…not by me personally? Does that make sense?
I have a related question: I’m able to post as my admin ID, but how do I upload albums from my iPad to facebook? It will only let me share one photo onto the wall OR add albums to my personal page…

Hi Chania! I’m afraid that we can’t create FB albums from our iPads :[ HOWEVER, using the new Facebook Pages app, you can add photos to existing albums. So, use your computer to create an album in Facebook, and then upload via your iPad and the Pages app. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip! I actually already had my settings set as paqman suggested but was too afraid to click “share” because my personal profile image was showing.
I hear you! There’s a moment when you’re quickly, in your head, coming up with a plan of what you’re going to do if it should post as you and not your page.
It looks like Facebook recently released an iOS app dedicated to managing pages on Facebook. It’s appropriately called “Facebook Pages Manager”: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/facebook-pages-manager/id514643583?mt=8
I haven’t had a chance to test out the app yet but the screenshots seem to solve @ amyhelen’s need to post a photo with a comment. Ratings are a bit low currently (2 stars) but hopefully they improve the app as more people use it and provide feedback.

This doesn’t help. I went into safari, and I was already set up to post as myself, yet I STILL post as my band on our page any time I use the ipad app.
